Description

The Milesight GS601 is a professional LoRaWAN® vape and smoke detector that identifies vaping and smoking events in real time and triggers both local and remote alerts — with no camera or microphone, so it protects privacy in sensitive spaces like restrooms.

A suite of embedded sensors simultaneously measures vape index, temperature, humidity, TVOC, PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10, while built-in anti-water-vapour filtering suppresses false alarms from shower steam and other gas interference. When thresholds are exceeded, the GS601 sounds a 70 dB buzzer and LED alarm on-site and reports remotely over LoRaWAN®. A vibration sensor flags tampering, and NFC tap configuration enables tool-free setup. Designed for ceiling installation in schools, hotels, public buildings, and rental properties.

Core Capabilities

7-in-1 Multi-Sensor Detection Simultaneously monitors vape index, temperature, humidity, TVOC, PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10 from a single ceiling-mounted device — comprehensive air-quality and vaping data without separate sensors per parameter.

Anti-Interference Smart Filtering Built-in algorithms suppress false alarms from water vapour (shower steam) and other gas interference, and report interference status separately — ensuring high-fidelity detection in humid restrooms and locker rooms.

Local & Remote Alarm with Tamper Detection A 70 dB buzzer and LED indicator give on-site alerts for vaping, burning conditions (temperature > 70°C or ΔT > 15°C within 15 s), and tampering via the built-in vibration sensor. Configurable buzzer hibernate periods prevent false alarms during installation or testing.

NFC Configuration & FUOTA Support Tool-free setup via NFC tap using the Milesight ToolBox app, with template-based bulk configuration and multicast control for large rollouts. Firmware Update Over the Air (FUOTA) and downlink commands enable ongoing remote management.

Multi-Dwelling & Rental Properties: Detect unauthorised smoking and vaping in apartments, dormitories, and short-term rentals to protect property, enforce lease terms, and trigger early fire-risk alerts via burning detection.

Technical Integration

The GS601 operates on LoRaWAN® Class C with OTAA or ABP join modes across EU868, US915, AU915, AS923, KR920, IN865, and RU864 bands. Power is supplied via USB Type-C (5V/1A) using the included adapter, or optionally via a PoE splitter for sites with Ethernet infrastructure. It integrates natively with Milesight LoRaWAN® gateways (UG65, UG67) and the Milesight Development Platform for visualisation, threshold alerts, and bulk template configuration, and is compatible with standard LoRaWAN® network servers including The Things Network, ChirpStack, and AWS IoT Core. Does the GS601 record audio or video?

No. The GS601 has no camera or microphone — it detects air-quality and vaping parameters only, so it protects privacy in restrooms and changing areas.

What does it detect?

Vape index, smoke, TVOC, temperature, humidity, and particulate matter (PM1.0, PM2.5, PM10), plus tampering and burning conditions.

Will shower steam cause false alarms?

No. Built-in anti-water-vapour filtering suppresses false alarms from steam and other gas interference, and reports interference status separately.

Does it need a LoRaWAN gateway?

Yes. The GS601 reports over LoRaWAN® (Class C) and works with standard gateways and network servers (e.g. The Things Network, ChirpStack) and Milesight UG65/UG67. A gateway is sold separately.

How is it powered?

Via the included USB Type-C power adapter (5V/1A), or optionally through a PoE splitter where Ethernet is available.

Where should it be installed?

On the ceiling at 2.4–3 m height in areas where smoking may occur, ideally 30–70 cm from exhaust fans and away from doors, windows, and air vents. Plan roughly a 1.5 m detection radius per device.
