Description

The Dragino DLOS8N is an open-source outdoor LoRaWAN® gateway built around the Semtech SX1302 concentrator (with dual SX1250 front-ends). Housed in a rugged IP65 enclosure with lightning protection and an external fibre-glass antenna, it bridges your LoRa wireless network to the internet over Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or optional 4G cellular — delivering extremely long range at low data rates for industrial IoT.

Running an embedded Linux system managed through a Web GUI, the DLOS8N supports the Semtech UDP packet forwarder, LoRaWAN Basics™ Station, and MQTTS, so it integrates with virtually any LoRaWAN network server. It also includes a built-in GPS module for location and timing, plus auto-provisioning and remote monitoring for easy mass deployment.

Core Capabilities

SX1302 Concentrator — Long Range Semtech SX1302 with dual SX1250 Tx/Rx front-ends for up to −140 dBm sensitivity and 70 dB CW interferer rejection. Emulates 49 LoRa demodulators plus a (G)FSK demodulator across 10 parallel demodulation paths.
Open-Source & Server-Flexible Embedded Linux managed via Web GUI or SSH. Connect to any LNS via Semtech UDP packet forwarder, LoRaWAN Basics™ Station, or MQTTS — or communicate directly with ABP LoRaWAN nodes with no server required.
Built for the Outdoors IP65-rated enclosure with lightning protection, a far-seeing LED indicator, and an external fibre-glass antenna. Operates from −20 °C to +85 °C, ready for rooftop, pole, and field installations.
PoE, Multi-Backhaul & GPS Backhaul over 10/100 Ethernet (802.3af PoE), 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, or an optional 4G cellular failover. A built-in GPS module provides accurate location and timing, with auto-provisioning for mass deployment.

Typical Applications

Smart Cities & Buildings: Provide wide-area outdoor LoRaWAN coverage for metering, environmental, and occupancy sensors across campuses and urban areas.
Smart Agriculture: Cover farms, greenhouses, and remote fields with long-range, low-power connectivity for soil, climate, and irrigation sensors.
Logistics & Smart Metering: Back-haul asset-tracking and utility-metering networks where mains power or wired internet may be limited.
Smart Factory & Industrial IoT: Aggregate sensor data across sites, with cellular failover keeping the network online if the primary link drops.

Choosing Your Variant

Model Backhaul Best For
DLOS8N-868 (EU868) Ethernet (PoE) + Wi-Fi Sites with reliable wired or Wi-Fi internet.
DLOS8N-EC25-868 (EU868) Ethernet (PoE) + Wi-Fi + 4G Remote sites, or anywhere needing cellular failover.

Both variants ship in the EU868 band (also covering RU864, IN865, KZ865). The 4G model uses a Quectel EC25-E cellular module.

Technical Integration

The DLOS8N fits into most LoRaWAN deployments with flexible connectivity, power, and server options:

Network servers: Any LNS via Semtech UDP packet forwarder, Basics™ Station, or MQTTS — plus direct ABP nodes for server-less use.
Backhaul: 10/100 Ethernet (802.3af PoE) · 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi · optional 4G (Mini-PCIe).
Power: 12–24 V DC / 2 A or PoE (typical ~300–500 mA @ 12 V).
Extras: LoRaWAN packet filtering; USB 2.0 host port; EU868 (also RU864 / IN865 / KZ865).

Frequently Asked Questions

Which LoRaWAN network servers does it support?

Any standard LNS via the Semtech UDP packet forwarder or LoRaWAN Basics™ Station — for example The Things Stack, ChirpStack, AWS IoT Core, and Helium-compatible setups. It can also push data over MQTTS.

Can it work without a LoRaWAN server?

Yes. The DLOS8N can communicate directly with ABP LoRaWAN end nodes, letting system integrators connect to an existing IoT service without running their own LoRaWAN server.

What's the difference between the two variants?

Both are EU868. The standard model backhauls over Ethernet (PoE) and Wi-Fi; the EC25 model adds a 4G cellular module for mobile connectivity or automatic failover when the primary link drops.

How is it powered?

By 12–24 V DC / 2 A, or via an IEEE 802.3af-compliant PoE port (DC 37–57 V) for a clean single-cable install. Typical consumption is around 300–500 mA at 12 V.

Is it suitable for outdoor installation?

Yes. It's an IP65-rated outdoor gateway with lightning protection and an external fibre-glass antenna, rated for −20 °C to +85 °C operation.
