Description

The Dragino LPS8v2 is a high-performance, open-source indoor LoRaWAN® gateway that bridges your LoRa wireless network to the internet over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or an optional 4G module. It reaches extremely long range at low data rates, making it a flexible, affordable foundation for private indoor LoRaWAN networks.

Running an open-source Debian system on a quad-core processor, the LPS8v2 is fully LoRaWAN-compatible and supports multiple connection modes — Semtech UDP Packet Forwarder, LoRaWAN Basics™ Station, and ChirpStack MQTT Bridge. It also includes a built-in ChirpStack LoRaWAN server and a Node-RED application server, so you can run a complete IoT service on the gateway itself, with no cloud or third-party server required.

Core Capabilities

Built-In LNS & Node-RED A built-in ChirpStack LoRaWAN server and Node-RED application server let you deploy a complete IoT solution on-device — no cloud or third-party server needed.
Works With Any Platform Connect via Semtech UDP Packet Forwarder, LoRaWAN Basics™ Station, or ChirpStack MQTT Bridge — compatible with most LoRaWAN platforms, including The Things Stack and AWS IoT Core.
Powerful, Open-Source Platform A quad-core Cortex-A7 (1.2 GHz) CPU with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB eMMC runs an open-source Debian system, managed by Web GUI or SSH, with 10 programmable parallel demodulation paths.
Flexible Backhaul & Remote Mgmt Backhaul over Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) or 10/100 Ethernet, with an optional 4G cellular module. Auto-provisioning and remote management make batch deployment and maintenance simple.

Typical Applications

Smart Buildings & Home Automation: Add indoor LoRaWAN coverage for environmental, occupancy, and metering sensors — with the option to run everything on-device.
Smart Metering & Logistics: Back-haul utility meters and supply-chain sensors with long-range, low-power LoRaWAN.
Smart Agriculture & Factory: A self-contained gateway-plus-server for greenhouses, farms, and small industrial sites.
Pilots, PoCs & Developers: Build complete prototypes fast with the built-in ChirpStack LNS and Node-RED on an open Debian platform.

Choosing Your Variant

Model Backhaul Best For
LPS8v2-868 (EU868) Ethernet + Wi-Fi Indoor sites with reliable wired or Wi-Fi internet.
LPS8v2-EC25-868 (EU868) Ethernet + Wi-Fi + 4G Sites needing cellular backhaul or failover.

Both variants are EU868. The 4G model uses a Quectel EC25-E module. Both are USB-C powered (5 V / 2 A).

Technical Integration

The LPS8v2 runs a complete IoT stack on-device and fits any LoRaWAN platform:

On-device servers: Built-in ChirpStack LNS and Node-RED application server — run a full IoT service with no cloud needed.
Connection modes: Semtech UDP Packet Forwarder, LoRaWAN Basics™ Station, or ChirpStack MQTT Bridge — works with The Things Stack, ChirpStack, and AWS IoT Core.
Backhaul: 10/100 Ethernet · 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) · optional 4G (EC25); auto-provisioning and remote management.
Platform & power: Open-source Debian on a quad-core CPU; USB Type-C (5 V / 2 A); operates −20 °C to +70 °C.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it run without a cloud or external server?

Yes. It includes a built-in ChirpStack LoRaWAN server and a Node-RED application server, so you can deploy a complete IoT service directly on the gateway.

How is the LPS8v2 powered?

Via USB Type-C (5 V / 2 A) — a charger is included.

Which LoRaWAN platforms does it support?

Most of them — it offers Semtech UDP Packet Forwarder, LoRaWAN Basics™ Station, and ChirpStack MQTT Bridge connection modes, working with platforms like The Things Stack, ChirpStack, and AWS IoT Core.

What's the difference between the two variants?

Both are EU868. The standard model uses Ethernet and Wi-Fi; the EC25 model adds a 4G cellular module for connectivity where wired internet isn't available.

How does it differ from the original LPS8?

The v2 is more powerful — a quad-core CPU with 512 MB RAM running Debian — and adds a built-in ChirpStack server, Node-RED, and more LoRaWAN connection modes.
