The Milesight EM400-TLD (NB-IoT/Cat.M) is a 3-in-1 cellular IoT sensor built for smart waste management — a gateway-free smart bin fill-level sensor that combines Time-of-Flight (ToF) laser measurement, GNSS asset tracking, and combustion detection in a single rugged unit.

Using ToF laser technology, it measures bin fill level across a 2–350 cm range with ±2 cm accuracy and a 27° field of view — virtually no blind spot on small and mini waste bins. An embedded NTC temperature sensor watches for combustion events, a 3-axis accelerometer detects lid status and tilt, and the NB-IoT/Cat.M1 radio connects directly to cellular networks with no LoRaWAN® gateway required. Two replaceable 9,000 mAh batteries deliver up to 10 years of maintenance-free operation. Ideal for municipalities, waste-management operators, and facilities teams running city-wide deployments.

Does the EM400-TLD NB-IoT/Cat.M need a LoRaWAN gateway?

No. This version connects directly to NB-IoT and Cat.M1 cellular networks, so no LoRaWAN® gateway is required. (A separate LoRaWAN model is available if you already run a gateway.)

What is the fill-level measurement range and accuracy?

It measures from 2 cm to 350 cm with ±2 cm accuracy and 1 mm resolution, across a 27° field of view.

How long does the battery last?

Up to 10 years on TCP/UDP, or around 5 years on MQTT/AWS, using two replaceable 9,000 mAh ER26500 Li-SOCl2 batteries. PSM must be enabled on the SIM for best results.

Do I need a SIM card, and what type?

Yes — a Micro SIM (3FF), 1.8 V, with PSM (Power Saving Mode) enabled. The SIM is not included.
