Description

The Milesight UG63 is a lightweight, cost-effective 8-channel mini indoor LoRaWAN gateway. Built on the Semtech SX1302 chip in a compact puck-sized enclosure, it's ideal for standing up a LoRaWAN network in a single space or small site — or as a supplementary gateway that fills coverage blind spots alongside larger Milesight UG56/UG65/UG67 gateways.

It's available in non-cellular (Ethernet) and 4G LTE models, each offered with an optional PoE splitter for single-cable power. Flexible, affordable, and quick to deploy on a desk, wall, or ceiling.

Core Capabilities

8-Channel SX1302 Performance 8 half-duplex channels with −140 dBm sensitivity and 27 dBm Tx power. In packet-forwarder mode it relays around 2,000 nodes to a mainstream network server (The Things Stack, ChirpStack, AWS IoT Core); its built-in network server handles up to 20 devices for standalone small setups.
Flexible Power & Backhaul Backhaul over Fast Ethernet (10/100), with optional 4G LTE Cat 1 on the cellular model. Power via USB Type-C (5V/2A), 5–12 V DC, or 802.3af PoE through the optional PoE splitter — just 1.3 W typical.
Blind-Spot Coverage Filler Deploy as a supplementary gateway that relays data to a Milesight UG56/UG65/UG67 controller gateway, extending LoRaWAN coverage and filling signal blind spots across offices, parking lots, and campuses.
Easy Deployment & Remote Management Compact Ф115 × 21 mm body for desktop, wall, or ceiling mounting; Wi-Fi AP for quick on-site configuration. Manage via Web, MQTT API, and the Milesight Development Platform / DeviceHub, with OpenVPN and link backup.

Typical Applications

Small Offices & Single Spaces: Stand up a self-contained LoRaWAN network for a shop, clinic, classroom, or small office without the cost of a full industrial gateway.
Blind-Spot Filling on Large Sites: Add coverage in stairwells, basements, parking lots, and warehouse corners, relaying to a UG56/UG65/UG67 controller gateway.
Pilots & Proof-of-Concept: A low-cost, easily portable gateway for trials, demos, and rapid LoRaWAN prototyping.
Remote Small Sites (4G model): Deploy where wired internet isn't available, using the 4G LTE model to backhaul over cellular.

Technical Integration

Key points for fitting the UG63 into your network:

Backhaul: Fast Ethernet (10/100), plus 4G LTE Cat 1 / GSM (Micro SIM, 3FF) on the cellular model. Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n, AP mode) is for on-site configuration only — not backhaul.
Integration & protocols: MQTT and HTTP(s) only (no BACnet or Modbus). In packet-forwarder mode it relays to The Things Stack, ChirpStack, or AWS IoT Core; the built-in network server suits standalone setups of up to 20 devices.
Management: Configured via Web, MQTT API, or the Milesight DeviceHub / Development Platform, with an OpenVPN client and link backup.
Power: USB Type-C (5V/2A), 5–12 V DC, or 802.3af PoE via the optional PoE splitter, at a typical 1.3 W (3.1 W max).
Mounting & environment: Compact IP30 PC+ABS enclosure (Ф115 × 21 mm, ~140 g) for desk, wall, or ceiling mounting; operates −20 °C to +50 °C.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many devices does the UG63 support?

In packet-forwarder mode it relays around 2,000 nodes to an external network server (e.g. The Things Stack, ChirpStack, AWS). Its built-in network server is designed for small standalone setups of up to 20 devices.

Which variant should I choose?

Pick the non-cellular (Ethernet) model where wired internet is available, or the 4G LTE model for cellular backhaul. Each is offered with or without a PoE splitter for single-cable power.

Can it extend an existing LoRaWAN network?

Yes — it works as a supplementary gateway that relays to a Milesight UG56/UG65/UG67 controller gateway, filling coverage blind spots across larger sites.

Is Wi-Fi used for backhaul?

No. Wi-Fi (AP mode) is for on-site device configuration only. Backhaul is via Ethernet, plus 4G LTE on the cellular model.

How is it powered?

By USB Type-C (5V/2A), 5–12 V DC, or 802.3af PoE via the PoE splitter, drawing a typical 1.3 W (3.1 W max).

Does it support BACnet or Modbus?

No — the UG63 integrates over MQTT and HTTP(s). For BACnet/Modbus building-system integration, choose the UG56, UG65, or EG71.
