Description
Description
The Milesight UG56 is a compact, rugged 8-channel industrial indoor LoRaWAN gateway for smart buildings and smart industry. Built on the Semtech SX1302 chip and a quad-core CPU, it handles 2,000+ end nodes with line-of-sight reach up to 15 km (about 2 km in dense urban areas) from a metal IP30 enclosure that mounts on a desk, wall, or DIN rail.
Crucially for smart buildings, the UG56 is a Building Management System (BMS) bridge — its embedded network server feeds LoRaWAN sensor data straight into BACnet/IP and Modbus systems. It ships in two backhaul models: Ethernet/PoE/Wi-Fi, and Ethernet/PoE/Wi-Fi/4G for sites that need cellular failover.
Building Management System (BMS) Integration
The UG56 drops LoRaWAN data into existing building infrastructure with no rip-and-replace. It exposes BACnet/IP, BACnet/SC, Modbus TCP, and Modbus RTU over TCP, alongside MQTT(s) and HTTP(s) APIs — so wireless sensors become first-class points in your BMS or PLC.

What's in the Box
Note: a Type-C cable & power adapter, AC/DC-DC power converter kit, and DIN-rail clip kit are available as optional accessories. The 4G model requires a Mini SIM (2FF), not included.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the UG56 integrate with a BMS?
It exposes BACnet/IP, BACnet/SC, Modbus TCP, and Modbus RTU over TCP (plus MQTT/HTTP APIs). LoRaWAN sensors appear as native BACnet objects via a virtual BACnet server — with no changes to your existing BACnet devices or management system. A free Milesight BACnet driver is provided.
What's the difference between the two models?
The Ethernet/PoE/Wi-Fi model backhauls over wired Ethernet (PoE) and Wi-Fi. The Ethernet/PoE/Wi-Fi/4G model adds a 4G LTE modem (Mini SIM, 2FF) for cellular failover where wired/Wi-Fi isn't reliable.
Can it be mounted in a control cabinet?
Yes — the compact metal enclosure supports desktop, wall, and DIN-rail mounting (DIN-rail clip kit available), making it ideal for electrical panels and control cabinets.
How many devices and what range does it support?
Around 2,000 Class A/B/C nodes, with line-of-sight reach up to 15 km and roughly 2 km in dense urban environments.
Does it need an external network server?
No — it has a built-in network server (with Gateway Fleet, Multicast, and FUOTA). It's also compatible with The Things Stack, ChirpStack, Actility, and AWS if you prefer an external LNS.
How is it powered?
By 802.3af PoE or USB Type-C (5V/2A), drawing a typical 1.8 W (6.9 W max).
