Description
Description
The Milesight SG50 is an ultra-low-power solar-powered LoRaWAN gateway built to remove the power and connectivity barriers of remote, off-grid sites. Built on the Semtech SX1302 chip with built-in rechargeable batteries and an included solar panel, it runs entirely without mains power inside a rugged IP67 cast-aluminium enclosure.
With 4G cellular backhaul, built-in GPS, and consumption of just 0.8 W typical, the SG50 keeps a LoRaWAN network online for up to 4 days without sunlight — ideal for oil & gas, mining, forestry, agriculture, and remote industrial monitoring. It's offered with a 30 W or 45 W solar panel to match your site's sunlight conditions.
Core Capabilities
Typical Applications
Technical Integration
The SG50 uses a dual-core 240 MHz Xtensa LX7 processor with 8 MB PSRAM and 16 MB flash. Backhaul is over 4G LTE Cat 1 / GSM (Nano SIM, 4FF); Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n, AP mode) is used for configuration. Integration is over MQTT and HTTP(s), configured via Web, MQTT API, or the Milesight Development Platform / DeviceHub, with an OpenVPN client. Power comes from the solar panel or DC 12–24 V via an M12 connector, with the built-in 25,000 mAh battery (charged via the M12 connector) and a USB-C (5V/2A) option for setup. The IP67 cast-aluminium enclosure (250 × 157.5 × 46 mm; 1.755 kg with batteries) mounts on a wall or pole and operates from −30 °C to +70 °C. For off-grid network design or deployment guidance, contact the ShopIoT technical team.
What's in the Box
Note: a Nano SIM (4FF) is required for 4G backhaul and is not included.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the 30 W and 45 W variants?
The variants are the included solar panel: 30 W (SP1530, default) suits typical sunlight, while 45 W (SP1545) harvests more energy for lower-light regions or higher node counts. The gateway itself is identical.
How long does it run without sunlight?
Up to 4 days on its built-in 25,000 mAh battery (100 nodes at a 10-minute report interval), at just 0.8 W typical consumption.
How does it connect to the internet?
Via 4G LTE Cat 1 / GSM cellular backhaul (Nano SIM, 4FF) — no wired internet needed. Wi-Fi is used only for on-site configuration.
How many devices does it support?
It relays around 2,000 nodes to an external network server in packet-forwarder mode, with a built-in network server for up to 100 devices for standalone sites.
Does it have GPS?
Yes — built-in GPS supports gateway location and simplifies remote management and deployment.
Does it support BACnet or Modbus?
No — the SG50 integrates over MQTT and HTTP(s). For BACnet/Modbus building-system integration, choose the UG56, UG65, or EG71.
