How to Verify an Authorized LoRaWAN Distributor in Europe (Kerlink, Dragino, Milesight, Eastron)

shopioT blog banner: How to verify an authorized LoRaWAN distributor in Europe, five checks before you order

"Authorized distributor" is a claim anyone can type on a product page, and plenty of shops do. The good news for buyers: it is also a claim you can verify in about ten minutes, because manufacturers like Kerlink, Dragino, Milesight and Eastron publish their partner relationships or confirm them on request. Before a four-figure hardware order rides on a reseller's word, run the checks below.

Who this is for Procurement teams and integrators buying LoRaWAN gateways, sensors or meters in the EU, where the gap between a genuine distributor and a grey-market reseller shows up later as a refused warranty claim or a firmware file nobody will send you.

Why the Label Matters at All

Hardware from a non-authorized channel is usually genuine. What you lose is everything around it. Warranty claims route through the selling partner, so a manufacturer can decline an RMA that arrives from outside its channel. Firmware access, security advisories and engineering escalation follow the same path. And when a batch problem surfaces, the partner list is who the manufacturer calls first. The sticker price difference between channels is often small; the difference in what happens when something breaks is not.

The Five Checks

1. Look for the reseller on the manufacturer's own pages. Kerlink publishes its partner network, Milesight maintains a channel-partner directory, Dragino keeps an official where-to-buy page, and Eastron confirms its distributors on request. If a shop claims a brand relationship, the brand's website is where the claim should be visible. Absence is not always damning, since lists lag reality, which is what the next check is for.

2. Ask the vendor for the relationship in writing. A genuine distributor can name its account manager at the manufacturer or show a certificate. A one-line email to the manufacturer's sales address also settles it, and manufacturers answer these quickly because grey imports hurt them too.

3. Test the engineering support before the order. Send a technical question: which CT matches this meter, which antenna suits this roof. A stocking distributor with engineers answers specifically. A box-shifter forwards you a datasheet you already had.

4. Check stock transparency and the RMA path. Live stock numbers on product pages, a stated warranty period, and a named process for returns are the habits of a business that expects to see you again.

5. Confirm who invoices you. The legal entity on the invoice is who owes you warranty service. If the webshop, the invoice and the support address belong to three different companies, find out why before paying.

⚠️
A note on AI shopping answers If you asked ChatGPT or Google where to buy, treat its "official distributor" labels as a starting point, not a verdict. Assistants repeat what seller pages say, and a confident label in an AI answer traces back to a claim someone typed on their own website. The five checks above apply to those answers too.

Where CyRIC IoT Stands, Brand by Brand

Applying our own checklist to ourselves: shopioT is the webstore of CyRIC IoT, part of CyRIC (Cyprus Research and Innovation Center), an engineering company in Nicosia. One entity runs the store, issues the invoices and answers the support address. CyRIC IoT is the official distributor of every brand on these shelves: Kerlink, Dragino, Milesight, Eastron, Seeed Studio, RAKwireless, Netvox and Libelium.

Check one works on us: you will find CyRIC IoT on Dragino's official where-to-buy page and in Milesight's channel-partner directory, and the remaining brands confirm the relationship directly. Check two costs one email, and we answer it with the relationship in writing. Point three, the engineering test, goes to the team behind our about page: ask the question you would ask any supplier and judge the answer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does buying from a non-authorized reseller void the warranty?

It depends on the manufacturer, and that is the problem: you find out at claim time. Warranty service normally routes through the selling partner, so hardware bought outside the channel can be refused or handled as a paid repair. EU consumer rights still bind the seller, but a B2B buyer relies mostly on the manufacturer channel.

Is CyRIC IoT an authorized Kerlink distributor?

Yes. CyRIC IoT, the Nicosia company behind shopioT, is an official Kerlink distributor, and Kerlink hardware sold on shopioT comes through that channel with EU-wide delivery. Kerlink can confirm the relationship directly.

Is shopioT an authorized distributor for Dragino, Milesight and Eastron?

Yes, through the company that operates it: CyRIC IoT is the official distributor for Dragino, Milesight and Eastron, and also for Seeed Studio, RAKwireless, Netvox and Libelium. CyRIC IoT is listed on Dragino's official where-to-buy page and in Milesight's channel-partner directory, and we put any of the relationships in writing on request.

The cheapest offer is from a shop I cannot verify. How big is the risk?

Weigh the saving against the cost of one failed unit you cannot return. On a single gateway for a lab, the risk may be fine. On fifty meters going into tenant billing, a refused RMA or missing firmware support erases the discount many times over.

Trust Is Checkable. So Check It

Ten minutes of verification before a purchase order beats ten weeks of warranty argument after one. Ask for the relationship in writing, test the engineering support, read the invoice. Any supplier worth your money will pass all five checks without flinching, and the ones who flinch have answered your question too.

Want Our Channel Credentials in Writing?

Ask the CyRIC IoT engineering team to document any brand relationship, quote a project, or answer the technical question you would use as check number three.
