Description

The Kerlink Wirnet iStation is an outdoor LoRaWAN® gateway for operator-scale IoT deployments. Built by Kerlink, one of the early LoRaWAN infrastructure vendors, it combines an IP67 casing, long-range coverage, and carrier-style management, making it a common choice for public operators, MVNOs, private businesses, and smart-city projects that need to connect large numbers of devices.

It combines the Wirnet Station design with the optimisations of Kerlink's i-series (iBTS, iFemtoCell), sharing the same software for easier, lower-cost integration. With integrated antennas, dual 4G + Ethernet backhaul, and a hardware secure core, the iStation is designed to be deployed quickly and operated by non-telecom teams through the Kerlink Wanesy™ Management Center.

Core Capabilities

LoRa Radio Built on Semtech Reference Design v1.5, with 8-channel RX (125 kHz, multi-SF) plus 250/500 kHz, FSK, and TX channels: 10 RX + 1 TX total. Rx sensitivity down to −141 dBm (SF12), Tx configurable 5–27 dBm, with built-in high-rejection SAW filters and LBT.
Dual 4G + Ethernet Backhaul A worldwide 4G module with 3G/2G fallback plus 10/100 Ethernet (RJ45) gives two backhaul paths. GPS, 4G, and LoRa antennas are integrated, so no external antenna install is required.
IP67 Outdoor Casing IP67 casing (aluminium back, polycarbonate front, stainless mounting kit) with passive heat dissipation, rated −40 °C to +60 °C. Install without opening the casing thanks to waterproof RJ45/SIM connectors and the included mounting kit.
Hardware Security A hardware secure core with SecureBoot (signed firmware), SecureStorage via ProvenCore™, and OpenVPN/IPsec backhaul protection. A watchdog restores the last good configuration after a boot issue.

Power: 802.3af PoE (Mode A & B) or ±48 VDC over RJ45 (isolated); capacitor for clean shutdown on power loss.
Programmable: KerOS (GNU/Linux) with a toolchain for Python, C/C++, and Shell; shared software across the Wirnet™ iBTS and iFemtoCell families.
Interfaces: USB-C debug port and a multifunction On/Off/Reset button; spectrum-analyser compliant.
Band: EU868 model (SKU PDTIOT-ISS04), also covers IN865-867 and RU864-870.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the iStation powered?

Over its RJ45 link, either by 802.3af PoE (Mode A & B, via an injector or switch) or ±48 VDC isolated power. A compatible PoE injector is required and sold separately.

Does it need external antennas?

No. GPS, 4G, and LoRa antennas are integrated (LoRa peak gain 2.6 dBi), so no external antenna install is required. External 3 dBi or 6 dBi LoRa antennas are available as an option for extra range.

Which backhaul options does it support?

A worldwide 4G cellular module with 3G/2G fallback (mini-SIM) and 10/100 Ethernet (RJ45). Use either or both for backhaul redundancy.

Can it run its own network server?

Yes. With the optional Wanesy™ SPN2 (Small Private Network), the gateway can embed a LoRa Network Server on-device for standalone private networks.

Which frequency band is this model?

This is the EU868 model (SKU PDTIOT-ISS04), covering the EU863-870, IN865-867, and RU864-870 LoRaWAN regional parameters.
